Introduction[]
The Ao Ming is a Tier 2 Titan with 2 Alpha and 2 Beta hardpoints.
Abilities[]
The Ao Ming's primary ability is called Dragon Flight, which allows it to take off and fly for an unlimited amount of time while also allowing it access to its beta weapons and grants a 30% speed boost (56 km/h at max speed). While grounded, Ao Ming gains a bonus 40-100 extra defense points on top of it's base 50-150, for a combined total of 90-250. While in flight the Ao Ming unleashes it's two back mounted beta weapons at the cost of losing the bonus defense points, making it more vulnerable. After landing, this ability goes on a short 5 second cooldown.
The Ao Ming's secondary ability is called Self Repair, which allows it to heal a fixed amount of durability over a duration of 6 seconds based on its engine level (similar to the Repair Unit and Advanced Repair Unit modules). After the duration expires, Self Repair goes on an 18 second cooldown.
Strategy[]
The best strategy for the Ao Ming is to keep your distance and use cover. Despite it's high firepower, Ao Ming has the lowest durability among all titans, making it an incredibly vulnerable glass cannon. Titan Repair Amplifiers, Damage Controller, or Titan Anticontrol can help mitigate it's low durability, and at least one should be used since it has a forced defense module slot. In order the get the most value out of Ao Ming's immense firepower, the use of high damage long range weapons such as Tonans/Fulgur or Discordia/Tumultus as well as several Onslaught, Cannibal, or Antimatter Reactors is highly recommended. If the aforementioned weapons are unavailable, Dazzler/Lantern are also options, but they sacrifice a great deal of damage for the Blind effect (which is still helpful since it offers additional survivability, but can only protect you from one player at a time). For lower league players, Gendarme/Cuirassier may be a last resort, but the use of platinum to buy these weapons is not recommended, as they deal very little damage compared to other weapons with no effects to make up for it. Investing in leveling up the titan may be a better option.
Positioning yourself properly is crucial in order to prevent being shot out of the sky extremely quickly. The skyscrapers on Shenzhen, for example, can be used as effective cover while in air. Shorter buildings such as the Colosseum on Rome can be good cover as well, but you'll need to adjust your flight altitude (which can be done in several ways, such as lifting off with a ceiling above you or while you're falling) in order to make use of them. If no structures large enough to provide cover in air are nearby, it is recommended to drop to the ground to take cover as soon as you are targeted by an enemy with high firepower. This can greatly increase your survivability as Ao Ming is susceptible to being instantly (or nearly instantly) killed by enemies weilding weapons such as Fulgur, Tonans, Discordia, or Tumultus. Also, since the Ao Ming has both of it's ground mode hardpoints positioned on the top of its chassis, it can effectively covershoot (shoot over structures) while taking little to no damage in return. Certain structures or an Ao Ming flying at a lower altitude than it should via altitude adjustment may permit covershooting with all four weapons midair. This strategy can be especially devastating against Newtons as Dragon Flight is considered a movement ability which makes a flying Ao Ming resist the effects of Choke as long as it stays moving.
Counterplay: A standard long ranged Ao Ming can either be countered by closing the distance with a brawler who can cover long distances in a short period (such as Rook or Luchador) or by countersniping it with a high firepower ranged robots (such as Crisis with Reapers or Newton with Fulgur/Tonans).
Threat Measure: Ao Mings are commonly underinvested and being used by lower league players, so they are typically not much of a threat. Additionally, since many players don't take advantage of altitude adjustment, they often are completely exposed and easy to kill from anywhere on the map. However, highly invested Ao Mings can be incredibly dangerous, as it's high firepower combined with leveled meta weapons can seriously "punch up" and kill higher tier titans, especially when used by the right player.
Ao Ming's playstyle can significantly change if its Legendary Pilot, Liu Zhetai is equipped. His abilities, mainly The Third Body are not only reverse-compatible with the regular edition of Ao Ming, but also unlock an effective playstyle similar to that of the Murometz. With Liu equipped, Ao Ming gains stealth every time it activates Dragon flight. Since the duration (4s) and cooldown (~7s) are incredibly short, it's recommended to avoid staying in flight for very long in order to refresh the stealth as often as possible. The short stealth can be extended if a mothership with the Lifesaver turret is equipped, providing plenty of time to deal burst damage and return to the ground. This constant "up and down" playstyle makes certain mixed setups viable on Ao Ming, as the Alpha weapons (which are always available) should deal high sustained damage while the Beta weapons (which are only out for a few seconds) should unload as quickly as possible or at the very least be able to reload while firing since weapons with a fixed reload will not begin reloading when Ao Ming lands. A pair of Discordias is highly recommended for the Alpha slots, but if it is not available, Dazzlers, Glaives, Cataclysms, Basilisks, Gargantuas or Vengeances can be used as substitutes. Fulgurs are recommended on the beta slots, but if not available, Ruptures, Cuirassiers, or Kistens can replace them.
Counterplay: A Liu Zhetai Ao Ming can be countered just as one would counter other stealth bots. The use of Quantum Radar or a legendary pilot that grants it can completely mitigate it's stealth. Quantum Sensor and the Seeker Drone are generally not recommended though, as Ao Mings typically play outside of their range.
Threat Measure: The threat measure of an Ao Ming with a max level Liu Zhetai significantly increases when compared to one without him, as this essentially guarantees that the Ao Ming is well invested. At the very least, an Ao Ming that is constantly activating stealth can be considered about the same threat as a Murometz, that is, high threat while it's stealth is active or ready to be activated, but vulnerable while it's stealth is unavailable.
Maha-Vajra/Vajra, Veyron/Evora, and Argon/Oxy all deal immense damage, but their limited range make Ao Ming builds that use these weapons extremely niche since it can be easily taken out from a distance by a Newton with Tonans/Fulgur, an Eiffel with Discordia/Tumultus, or even a Crisis with Reapers. Regardless, the combination of Ming's firepower with these burst weapons can quickly defeat even the toughest brawler titans who get in range such as the Rook and Luchador, but Ao Ming's limited durability makes this a very risky tactic. For lower league players, Cyclone/Cataclysm and Grom/Squall are cheaper options for this sort of playstyle, but it is not recommended to spend platinum on these weapons as their damage is extremely unimpressive. The effectiveness of a close range Ao Ming mostly depends on how it uses nearby cover and if the Ao Ming attacks opportunistically, such as when the enemy has begun reloading or exhausted all of their abilities. The Legendary pilot is also extremely valuable for this playstyle.
Counterplay: Countering close ranged Ao Mings can simply be done by outranging them. Ao Ming's kit was designed for a long ranged playstyle, so it has no means to close the distance and is helpless to fight back if you stay out of it's range, especially if the pilot isn't equipped.
Threat Measure: While it might be easy to dismiss a close ranged Ao Ming as a completely ineffective joke build, it's main issue lies in the fact that it has no way of getting within range of the enemy. This issue is, however, not present when fighting enemies who get within range themselves, such as brawlers. Opportunistic close ranged Ao Mings can be extremely deadly, with their high firepower able to shred through even the tankiest of defenses. A close ranged Ming should be considered a high enough threat that some effort should go into trying to dispatch it from a distance, if possible.Possible Setups[]
These setups are recommended for the Ao Ming:
Note: When "Opt." is next to a slot type, it refers to one of the multiple options that can be used in combination with the other weapon(s) slot type(s).
Close Range (350m or less)[]
Note: Close range setups are generally not recommended. They are very risky and easily countered. Regardless, since they can be fun and perform well in niche situations and on certain maps due to their immense damage they are listed.
Long-Range (600-800m)[]

Trivia[]
- The Ao Ming undulates when flying, if not moving.
- Unlike how all flying robots cannot carry weight, the Ao Ming is the first to be able to carry weight (though a very limited number of robots can actually 'ride' the Ao Ming while it's walking or flying.)
- Ao Ming's Self-Repair animation is similar to the orb that forms when any robot is healing itself.
- The robot's design is reminiscent to Ao Jun, Ao Guang and Ao Qin.
- They also make a 'dragon deck' as both can fly and are based on four dragons
- If another Titan falls and lands on top of an Ao Ming as it is flying then the Ao Ming exits its flying mode, the Ao Ming will enter a "crouching" position when it lands (presumably if the titan on top does not fall off), this can also be seen very briefly if a flying Ao Ming is too low to the ground as it exits its flying mode. This is also possible with Arthur and Kid when they are stationary.
- A connection bug that currently exists, is if you briefly disconnect from the battle while your taking off in the Ao Ming, it will cut the animation. Causing the Ao Ming to remain at its current height when it is in flight mode. This bug can give user the ability to utilize ground cover and move more effectively, however they will have a much harder time targeting face hugging opponents. This is also possible with other flight capable robots such as Ao Jun or Nightingale.
- Ao Ming has the lowest health among all titans.
- Ao Ming had the most firepower amongst all of the Titans until Eiffel's release.
- Ao ming was the tallest Titan in the game until Eiffel's release.
