Introduction

The Scorcher is a medium-range (up to 500 meters) scorching medium rocket weapon. It has a light and heavy counterpart (Scald and Incinerator respectively) and can be viewed as the scorching counterpart to the Tulumbas.

Strategy

Scorcher is a BLASTCHARGE-type weapon. Upon a certain number of hits, the BLASTCHARGE effect explodes, dealing 25,000 damage in an AoE (Area of Effect) of 100m (needs verification) around the target, bypassing any shields or damage resistance in the process. If a shield in the radius happens to be a physical shield, the Scorcher will not only bypass it but also deal damage to it.

The Scorcher is best used against groups of enemies, especially strike teams with great co-ordination, as the Scorcher's AoE blast radius will discourage the enemies from getting close to each other to avoid taking unnecessary damage while also disorganizing their team effort, unless of course they have an anti-Scorcher contingency plan in place.

The Scorcher also proves as a good counter to enemies with shields, especially physical shields, as not only does the splash damage of the weapon's initial shots bypass them, but also its explosion deals damage to it. However, as the Scorcher does not charge its blast effect through energy, Aegis or Absorber shields, when faced against these enemies the Scorcher must always target an enemy outside the shield, but nevertheless close to it. In doing this, that enemy will explode and thus deal damage to the enemy within the shield, despite the shield normally protecting them from the Scorcher. The Scorcher also counters enemies with damage resistance effectively, as the blast bypasses the defense system. Note that it does not bypass Reflector.

The Scorcher itself is best used in hit-and-run tactics, as its long reload, short unload and considerable burst damage allows it to deal maximum damage in minimal time. As an extra bonus, the Scorcher boasts a 500m range, allowing the user to stay unharmed (for the most part) by close-range plasma, rockets or sonic weapons, and even if they do manage to get within range the Scorcher will most likely have dealt critical damage to the enemy.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • High burst damage
  • Can cause enemies to explode (usually in one clip)
  • Can penetrate physical shields
  • Can reload while firing
  • Can penetrate energy shields
  • Explosion bypasses damage resistance
  • Capable of brawling despite being a mid range weapon

Cons

  • Slow fire rate
  • Slow reload (for full clip)
  • Small area damage (explosion)
  • Not good for sustained damage
  • Relatively small clip for burst weapons
  • Very weak against aegis shields

Trivia

  • Scorchers usually fire 2 particles and use 2 ammo, but it reloads 1 ammo at a time so that when it is reloading only 1 particle is fired instead of waiting for all 2 ammo to reload.
  • Even though it is described as part-rocket launcher, Scorcher fires energy rounds which is unrealistic.
