Introduction[]
Prisma is a long-range energy weapon used exclusively for sniping. At optimum (max) range, it deals some of the highest damage per second (DPS) of any weapon in the game.
Pros and Cons[]
Pros[]
- Very long range weapon (1,100m)
- Very high damage at long range
- Quick unload time
- Reload while firing
- Energy weapon bypasses Ancile shielding
Cons[]
- Damage decreases as range decreases
- Long reload time
- Bright solid firing beam immediately alerts enemies to your position
Strategy[]
The Prisma is a deadly heavy weapon designed solely for long-range firefights. It’s extremely high damage is compensated for by the fact that its damage gets lower when an enemy approaches.
The Prisma suffers from some notable drawbacks. First, it is the only weapon in the game that loses damage potential as range decreases (see table below). Second, while the weapon benefits from a relatively short unload time, it suffers from a long reload time. This leaves the operator vulnerable to enemies with the ability to close rapidly before the weapon is fully reloaded. This is offset somewhat by the fact that Prisma is a reload while fire (RWF) weapon, meaning that it does not have to wait for a complete magazine reload before firing again.
A common misconception of the Prisma is that it is effectively worthless inside of long range. This is not entirely the case. While the weapon certainly suffers at closer ranges, it can still perform somewhat adequately at a range of as little as 250m (~50% damage), due to the fact that its base DPS is so high to begin with.
The most concerning element of the weapon's design isn't so much the damage drop at short range as it is the long reload time. The magazine empties fairly quickly and takes a long time to reload. This means that the user will experience extended periods of "weapons down" time. Skilled Prisma snipers understand that they must be patient for targets to present themselves and be willing to 'duck and cover' frequently to maximize Prisma's damage potential.
The best way to use the Prisma is to combine it with the active module Lock-Down Ammo. This way, you can safely lock enemies down and simply kill them or wait for them to be killed by your allies. Another good strategy is to mount the Prisma on the Crisis or Erebus, a deadly choice. When mounting Prisma on the aforementioned robots, use Phase Shift to save yourself when a high-damaging projectile is approaching.
