Introduction

The Hornet is a mid-range (up to 600 meters) heavy kinetic weapon. It has a medium counterpart (Wasp).

Strategy

The Hornet is a heavy corrosive kinetic shell-shooter weapon with the ability to obliterate enemy robots from afar. With a large 600m maximum range, any robot wielding Hornets and its counterparts can quickly grind down any enemy without fear of close-range retaliation. Good mounting choices include the Behemoth and Fury with their huge firepower, and even the Butch with its ability to swap between dual sets of Hornets.

When using the Hornet, commanders must target enemy robots with damage resistance first, as the Hornet's corrosive attribute allows it to inflict damage over time (DoT) on the enemy for five seconds per shot. This corrosion will bypass any damage resistances (excluding Reflector shields) and thus allow the user to take out the enemy with resistance easier than non-damage resistance bypassing allies. This means that the enemy with resistance will be severely damaged by the time it reaches the battlefield if the Hornet user has landed a few rounds on it, so it will be less of a nuisance for your allies to deal with.

The Hornet's main drawbacks, however, are its quick unload (compared to more long-term solutions, like Avenger, Viper and Tempest, however it still fares well in terms of unload time compared to shotguns and rocket weapons) and sluggish reload, having a 12 second reload time to restock its entire clip. This means that, despite being able to unload massive amounts of damage and corrosion in a short amount of time, the commander wielding the Hornet will soon have to find cover and retreat, leaving their allies inside the fray for 12 seconds without any covering fire and advantage against enemies with damage resistance. Butch experiences a slightly smaller problem as it can swap to another set of Hornets after unloading, though.
