Introduction

The Grom is a close range (up to 500m, with a 150m optimal range) Alpha kinetic weapon. It has a Beta, light, medium and heavy counterpart (Squall, Gust, Storm and Thunder respectively).

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Extremely powerful canister charges prove effective in knife-fights
  • Kinetic projectiles deplete physical and energy shield HP quickly
  • Good for fighting against enemy Titans due to their big hitbox
  • Reload-while-firing attribute gives semi-sustained fire against enemies

Cons

  • Ineffective against small targets
  • Damage is marginally reduced at range
  • Alpha weapon-can only be mounted on Titans

Strategy

Functioning similar to the Storm, Gust, Thunder, and Squall, the Grom deals damage in small pellets that spread apart like a shotgun. In other words, less distance between the enemy translates to more damage. The only downsides are the bad long range capabilities and ineffective against smaller targets due to the shotgun like nature of this weapon.

The strength of this weapon is its massive close range combat capabilities due to the multiple canister charges. It can easily deplete energy and kinetic shields due to the size of energy shields and the double damage boost kinetic weapons have. However, if against robots with Absorber shields like Nemesis or Ares, tread carefully! Their Absorber shields, similar to Aegis and Energy shields, will catch your Grom's pellets, but instead of taking damage they partially return the damage via their built-in weapons (or healing system, in the case of the Demeter. Make sure to pick another target and tank out the damage if you come against an enemy like Hades.

Since the Grom requires close range to perform effectively, it is advised to hide behind big enough cover (which may be hard due to being a Titan) and lure the enemy to launch an offensive towards you, and when they get within the point of no return you can step out of cover and obliterate them with the Grom's huge damage potential. However, there are some exceptions, like Minos, which can accelerate to huge speeds to get within range of the enemy and then tear them apart from close range.

The Grom has Defense Mitigation which can be increased via upgrading the Grom, like all Titan weapons. This means it can partially bypass damage resistances on robots like Leech and Falcon, however this does not negate any other effects (if applicable), like the Leech's return-damage ability via Repulse. As such, it is advised to target enemies which have damage resistance as to take them out of the match so they can't be a nuisance for your allies without defense mitigation. Remember that the Grom cannot bypass Reflector shield resistances and will still get damage returned by the Reflectors.
