Introduction

Prior to 2017 War Robots had only one game mode - "Domination". This game mode was not sufficient for all of the player base because it favors faster robots and a winning strategy, which, for the most part, included capturing and holding beacons.

After 2017, the game has been updated several times, each one integrating a new gamemode into it.

Official Game Modes

The original War Robots game-play mode, also being the first game mode that a new player will have access to in the early stages of the game.

A match of up to twelve players (two teams of six players) will start at their home beacons and be pitted against each other on a randomly chosen map. The objectives of this game mode is to either capture all Beacons or to eliminate all opposing players on the enemy team, before the game timer reaches 0:00.

Typically, team coordination, beacon management, target prioritization and individual player skills will be the deciding factors of the outcome of a Domination match.

This is the second game mode that a new player will gain access to upon reaching level 10. Unlike Domination, this game mode allows both allies and enemies to respawn at their controlled beacons, providing another gameplay dynamic to the overall match.

Like Domination, team coordination, beacon management, target prioritization and individual player skills will be the deciding factors of the outcome of a Beacon Rush match.

This game mode was first introduced in early 2017.

This is the third game mode that a new player will gain access to upon reaching level 10. Unlike both Domination and Beacon Rush, there are no beacons on the map that the match takes place on.

The only objective for both teams, is to eliminate all opposing players or achieve the most points, prior to the end of the game timer.

This game mode was first introduced in late 2017.

This is the fourth game mode that a new player will gain access to upon reaching level 15.

Unlike other game modes, this game mode features a maximum of six players that are pitted against each other on a randomly chosen map. Every opposing player will be an enemy of each player, and thus will not be able to rely on tactics based around teamwork.

The main objectives of this game mode is to be the last player alive, as well as eliminating all other players. Additionally, every kill rewards a certain number of link=https://warrobots.fandom FFA Tokens that allows players to revive any destroyed robots that they have lost. However, the cost will gradually increase for each subsequent revival.

Additionally, squads cannot chose this game mode or enter FFA matches.

This game mode was first introduced in late 2017.

This is a game mode that allows players to host custom matches, explore maps, or make use of a specially made hanger (Hanger X) on selected maps that are available.

As usual, winning a Custom Games Match can result from capturing all beacons, or the complete destruction of all opposing robots. However, if a player is by themself with no other players in the lobby, destroying their own robot by either leaving or falling into a Map Hazard will automatically end the match.

This mode unlocks at player level 10.

Time-Limited Game Modes

This is a limited-time game mode that has no fixed, reoccurring schedule. Skirmish can feature as little as four players, or as many as twenty players in a match, all using a custom hanger that can sometimes be tailored (depending on team) or be varied. Additionally, map variations or completely new maps may be used over traditional ones.

The objectives of this game mode varies greatly, including regular game modes and potentially new ones.

Unlike other ranked game modes, Skirmish does not reward League Points nor do players lose any when losing or winning Skirmish matches.

In the past, this game mode was first introduced in 2018 during the War Robots Anniversary Event and could be unlocked at player level 15.

This is a limited-time game mode that also has no fixed, reoccurring schedule. Though, this game mode has a gambling like quality to it, as it features up to six players (each have to pay a certain amount of Gold Gold as an entrance fee) pitted against each other in regular or custom maps (like Skirmish).

The objectives are quite similar to the Free-For-All game mode, however all players will be using certain hangers and will not be able to revive any of their destroyed robots in elimination-fashion. Reaching either first, second or third place will net the player a certain amount of Gold Gold and Power Cell Power Cells.

Player-versus-Environment Game Modes

Cancelled/Scrapped Game Modes

This game mode was introduced in the early 2018, in version 3.6.0, currently removed from the game. It featured one beacon that must be captured and held by a team until the points meter at the top of the screen is fully depleted. These points will then be added to the team's overall dominance bar, and the beacon will relocate somewhere else, and the process repeats. The game is won when the dominance bar of one team is completely filled before the other, when one team's dominance bar is greater than the other's by the time the timer runs out, or when all robots are destroyed.

There is a way to quickly deplete beacon point meters: If there are allied robots in the beacon that has been captured by your team, the meters will decrease slightly faster (earning more points as well). The more allies nearby, the faster that meters will decrease. However, if there are no allied bots in beacon, the meter will still decrease but much slower.

Also, the first beacon available in KotH is often the center points, and typically matches side beacons - the side beacon closer to your team will be followed by the comparable side beacon closer to the enemy team, or vice versa.

This mode unlocks at player level 10.

This is the first PvE game mode in War Robots, introduced in version 8.1, June 2022. Players use a preset hangar with modified weapons, to fight to survive among endless waves of AI spider robots. Currently there are only two enemy types, small Spiderbombs that assault you aggresively with a Cinder-like weapon, and larger Spideratilleries that avoid direct skirmishes and fires damaging rockets at a distance.

A special event ticket is required to enter this game mode, which can be obtained for free, by watching ads, or direct purchase with real money. The amount is limited per day. After reaching certains goals in the game, you get awarded with an ample gold prize and power cells.

This game mode was removed prior to the introduction of Extermination.
