Introduction[]

Pilots are equip-able human (and sometimes other types, such as the APPM-3TR pilot) soldiers, that can be trained to give particular robot configurations special bonuses that can give players an edge on the battlefield. This was one of 3 major features of 2019. This feature was introduced in Update 5.1.

Pilots can be trained to learn certain skills that provides bonuses to the robot he/she pilots. All pilots start with an initial skill slot when equipped to a robot with full weapons. Every 10th pilot level (after level 1) the pilot gains a new rank, and can learn a new skill, that gives a bonus to either the robot it is piloting, or any specific equipment mounted on it. A pilot can learn up to 7 skills and can reach a maximum level of 70, with each individual level up increasing the effectiveness of the skill that is currently being trained (only one skill can be trained at a time).

Types[]

There are two types of pilots in the game: Standard and Legendary.

Standard Pilots[]

Pilots of this type have a blue colored background behind them. They can be hired at any level within a certain range (according to current levels of other pilots you hired), with different amounts of gold. They have a maximum skill tier cap of Tier 3.

These pilots have randomly generated names, a random avatar and corresponding story, chosen from an exhaustive list in the game.

Legendary Pilots[]

Legendary pilots have significant advantages compared to regular pilots. Firstly, they come with a Legendary Pilot skill, which provides a unique boost to a specific robot or type of weapon. Secondly, their skills can be upgraded to T4, which gives them an entire extra level of stats for their abilities.

Legendary Pilots can be identified by their golden Pilot Background.

All Legendary Pilots cost 2500 Gold to hire, with the exception of Adam O’Leary, who costs only 1000 Gold to hire.

A list of all the currently available Legendary Pilots can be found here.

Training Center (Hiring Pilots)[]

Pilots are purchased for gold Gold in the Training Center, located in the Offers section, under the "Pilots" tab. Pilots appear randomly in the training center, in batches of 3 every 12 hours. An update can be forced by spending 50 gold or watching an ad (only once per day).

Standard pilots can be hired at any level within a range. The highest possible level increases as the player trains his pilots. A new player will see only pilots at level 1-10. Legendary pilots can only appear at level 1.

Example: Standard pilot Barbara Noel is at level and can immediately learn 4 skills. However, changing a skill at random will cost 150 gold. Raj Esfahani can learn 3 skills (100 gold for a random roll) and the promotion from level 30 to level 31 is free (instead of 1,500 gold).

Levelling Up & Tiering Up[]

Levelling up can be done in 3 different ways; by using the robot(s) equipped with a pilot(s) in battle to gain experience (for the pilot[s]), using the "boost" feature by spending gold to immediately advance the pilot a level, or watching ads to advance the pilot by around 90 XP per ad.

The better the player performs in battle, the more experience the pilot(s) will gain. The higher the pilot's rank the more experience it requires to level up, as well as costing more gold to boost a level. You can keep track of your progress by looking at a pilot's experience bar.

Pilot skills have tiers (T1 to T4) that increase the bonus of the pilot, however only legendary pilots can achieve T4 (standard pilots are unable to progress past Tier 3). Tiers can be increased for an amount of gold. Skills that are randomly rolled can come in different tiers, mostly T1 but T4 is possible. Emergency once-per-battle skills like Foolhardy Quartermaster are fixed at Tier 3.

Example: The skill Master Gunsmith on an Ao Jun at T1 gives 1.25% damage if the level is maxed. At T2, the bonus increases to 1.9%. For T3 it's 2.5%.

Every 10th level after level 1 (11, 21, 31, 41, 51, and 61) the pilot needs to be promoted to a new rank. In order to promote a pilot, 500 gold must be spent (same location as the boost button) for the first rank (at level 11). Each subsequent promotion costs more gold than the previous rank up. Each promotion allows the pilot to learn a new random skill (a maximum of 7) that fits the current robot configuration.

Total costs assume skill selection. Costs may be higher or lower when random rolling is used.

Skill total is for non-legendary pilots. Legendary pilots have their special skill on top of these.

Replacing Skills[]

You can replace any pilot skill learned by a pilot, either by directly choosing one or by random. Skills can only be changed when the robot is fully equipped with weapons, since the skills pool is dependent on the weapons equipped. The newly replaced skill will retain the level, but the tier depends on the mode.

Skill replacement is done by pressing the "Change a skill" button in the pilot screen. A list of all skills will appear, and the skill to be replaced can be selected. In this list, you can set a skill to another skill for a certain amount of gold, which increases as your pilot ranks up. However, the new skill can only be T1.

You can replace by random as well. To enter this mode, press the "Random Skill" button, and confirm the re-roll. After, the system will randomly select a new skill of any tier. The gold cost for this increases with the level of the pilot, therefore it is more expensive to change skills after the pilot is promoted.

Important! According to calculations and testing, it is strongly recommended to choose a fixed skill for the last 3 skills you unlock, and never use random rolls for them. Rolling skills by random is extremely costly and ineffective for these higher levels!

For the first three or four skills, it is recommended to randomize them until they are good skills and have a tier of at least 3. This can save lots of gold and provide useful skills.

Finally, save emergency once-per-battle skills like Foolhardy Quartermaster for last, since they cannot be upgraded. At level 61, choosing this skill will give your pilot the same strength as level 70, and save you from the long wait.
