Introduction
The Devastator is a close-range (up to 200 meters, with a 100m optimal range) heavy sonic weapon. It has a light and medium counterpart (Scatter and Havoc respectively) and can be viewed as the sonic counterpart to the Glory and Thunder.
Strategy
The Devastator is an extremely dangerous sonic shotgun weapon that can easily destroy opponents if within range, especially with its lower bullet spread and higher damage compared to its counterparts the Thunder and Glory. However, since it only has 200m range at maximum, with an 100m optimal range, the Devastator requires a good method to get within range.
There are many mounting options for the Devastator, but the most prominent are the Shell, Hellburner, Hawk and Ao Jun. On a Shell paired with Scatters, the Shell can use the speed boost provided by Atom and the many built-in physical shields installed inside its hull to get within range of an enemy, where the Devastator can usually finish them off from. If mounted on a Hellburner, paired with either a Scatter or (preferably) an Ecu, the Hellburner can use much the same strategy as the Shell, except with no shields, more built-in explosion damage, more speed and no knockback. On the Hawk and Ao Jun, they can easily use their defence systems and speed boosts given in their flight to get within range of an opponent, and when they are there their built-in weapons will probably have dealt catastrophic damage to them already.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Critical damage at any functional range
- Can easily deplete Ancile and Aegis shields due to its huge damage and spread
- Is effective at prolonged combat
Cons
- Extremely short range
- Is a shotgun weapon, meaning it has an even shorter optimal range
- Is a sonic weapon, meaning it cannot penetrate any shield or deal double damage to physical shields
