Introduction[]

The Bolt is a medium robot with three light hardpoints. It is unofficially classified as a light robot based on wiki criteria.

Ability[]

The Dash ability gives Bolt a quick burst of movement in any given direction over the span of one second. The Bolt cannot change directions after the ability is activated until it expires. Upon completing its Dash the Bolt enters a cooldown phase of 5 seconds.

Strategy[]

The Bolt is a light bot (according to Wiki criteria) with 3 light hardpoints, lower than average health, and a very small frame. The Bolt starts at level 1 with excellent ground speed, which is further enhanced by its Dash ability, which adds a brief burst of speed. The Bolt is best used as a beacon capper and a hit-and-run unit thanks to its Dash ability. Due to its low hit points, low firepower, and only one Dash charge, pilots should save the ability to escape dangerous situations and not conduct sustained engagements. The Bolt is best used for supporting ambushes by using high burst-damage weapons.

Due to its extremely low durability, when playing as a beacon capper it is recommended to stay out of range of enemies. Weapons which promote huge burst damage should be used to finish off any enemies which target you, relying on allies to grind them down to a low enough health threshold in which you can finish them off in one clip. As such, when commanding the Bolt in this fashion the commander should always take a route to beacons which force any intercepting enemies to walk into sniper fire or into a passing brawler's range.

If the commander is seeking to gain honor by destroying enemies, the Bolt should only be used in helping ambushes, not conducting them. Due to its extremely low hitpoints, if the Bolt is caught off-guard alone by even a sniper robot it will generally be obliterated in a matter of seconds (with the exceptions of artillery users). However, the Bolt can be a valuable asset in assisted brawls against shielded robots, as it can quickly Dash around the enemy's shield and attack them from the vulnerable flanks, which forces the enemy either to attack the Bolt and expose its unshielded hull to the (hopefully) much better armed ally or to keep on attacking the ally and allow the Bolt to grind away its health.

If the Bolt still somehow manages to find itself in a 1v1 brawl against a tankier enemy, destruction is almost inevitable but time can be gained for allies to conduct their own operations by circling the enemy while facehugging them and using Dash whenever possible. Larger robots can have a difficult time trying to lock onto smaller enemies and therefore the Bolt can prolong its survival time.

The Bolt can also be used to flank the enemy by covering large distances in a relatively short amount of time. This allows the Bolt to either conduct an ambush on an unsuspecting target or distract the enemy, as the Dash allows for the Bolt to both quickly reach its target and escape from fire. Try picking slow enemies so you can outrun them and retreat quick if you are losing.

Counterplay: The Bolt is not too difficult to counter. Lock-on weapons can assist commanders greatly while firing at the Bolt, as its Dash will be unable to shake off the fire. Robots with more firepower than the Bolt can easily take it down, as they generally will have more health than it too.

Threat Measure The Bolt is a moderate threat as a Tier 1 robot, but can be classified as high in very particular scenarios (e.g. co-ordinated ambushes/1v1 engagements with an off-guard sniper robot). However, the Bolt almost ceases to function the moment the transition into Tier 2 is complete, with a robot that is superior in almost every way in the next Tier.

Trivia[]

  • The Bolt's name and speedy attributes might have been inspired by Usain Bolt, the world famous athlete (this guy)
  • Bolt resembles Gepard in hardpoints, health and speed. In fact, it can be considered a precursor to the Pursuer and an upgrade to the Gepard.
  • Bolt is the second robot to have a fixed speed, along with Gepard and Stalker.
  • Bolt is the first light bot to have Dash ability.
  • This robot was added on January 29, 2019.
  • The Bolt's limited edition model was leaked, but it never showed up in game.
  • This robot was made together with the War Robots community. (You and me!)
