Introduction
The Ares is a medium robot with 2 medium and 2 light hardpoints.
Ability
Ares's ability is Retribution. Upon activation of the ability, Ares deploys an impenetrable absorption shield (blocks all damage types with the exception of the Mercury's Helldive, Hellburner's Overload, Kid's Stove, and Arthur's Blast Wave ) and brings out its 4 built-in energy cannons. For the first half of the 8 second ability duration, its shield can absorb damage to increase its built-in weapons' damage output by 119% of the damage the shield takes (for example, 1,000 damage absorbed will increase the Retribution damage by 1,190). The overall Retribution damage can be increased by up to 100% (double), allowing it to inflict tremendous damage in a short period of time. When the shield is absorbing damage, the built-in weapons begin to charge up indicated by the glow coming out of the cannons. Once the shield has absorbed enough damage, the glow will reach maximum brightness, and the cannons will be fully charged. However, while Absorber is active, the robot's movement speed is reduced by 33%.
Strategy
This robot is one of three in the Greek Pantheon faction, the other two being the Hades and the Nemesis.
Ares is one of the most destructive robots in the game, hence the name Ares, who is the God of War and Bloodshed in Greek mythology. The Ares’ shield can consume an infinite amount of damage for up to 8 seconds, and its retractable plasma cannons can deal up to 92,000 damage if the enemy fires at its shield. It is fast for a medium robot, allowing it to run down and eliminate most enemies with ease, and has wide mounting points, allowing it to effectively corner shoot. However, using stealth and running inside its shield with a Blitz, Strider, Phantom, Pursuer or even a Stalker will finish the Ares off fairly quickly, so make sure to have a counter, e.g. rooting weapons. The Ares is powerful but brittle, and is most effective when doing hit and run tactics and Ares trains.
When facing an Ares it is recommended to not fire when its shield is active. Instead wait to attack an Ares when it is recharging its ability, which reloads in 18 seconds (1 second shorter than the jump of a Griffin). During this time lock-down weapons may be used to immobilize the Ares and possibly force the Ares’ pilot into activating the Ares’ ability or to use Phase Shift (if equipped). Despite its drawbacks the Ares is a major threat to all robots it encounters, including Titans.
If a player is fast enough the Invader, Rayker, Blitz, Nightingale, and Cerberus abilities can hit and suppress an Ares before the ability activation, giving themselves a respite and the chance to either run away or run inside the Ares shield. Blitz's four light weapons can make short work of an Ares, and a Rayker even more so with a heavy and two lights. The Invader can tank a full burst of Ares' ability and when the Ares' ability is over, it will be vulnerable to attacks. The Leech could use its Repulse ability to counter the Ares' Retribution by reducing the incoming damage to itself and redirecting the damage to the Ares, forcing it to redirect its fire or switch to another target.
Threat Measure
Combining at base level of 64K HP and 48km/h speed, Ares is notoriously delicate, but with its Retribution ability and 2 light and medium weapons, this Pantheon robot is considered lethal. It can absorb up to an infinite amount of damage and redirect it with its 4 built-in energy weapons quickly. This ability allows it to counter Titans effectively. While dangerous, Ares can be brought down by Helldive or Overload, or intelligent tactics, such as the active module Shieldbreaker. It is considered to be a threat to every robot, especially if armed with Last Stand, or with any modules that compliment its ability.
Ares is a "glass cannon" platform based on damage first and speed second. It is best to boost the bot with additional damage, speed, or health through modules, with some attention given survivability. Some top clanners run module skills, but most pay attention to the skills that kill opponents or keep themselves alive through additional speed or health. Weapon sets are best used for flex range as the Ares is deadly from 250M to 500M.
Possible Setups
Some effective setups for the Ares are:
Note: When "Opt." is next to a slot type, it refers to one of the multiple options that can be used in combination with the other weapon(s) slot type(s).
Each slot type is filled with only one particular weapon. For example, if a robot has 3 light all three of those slots are filled with Pinatas, as mixing weapons of the same slot type is usually not advisable.
However, utility weapons can be effectively mixed with standard weaponry, for example the Halo (a root weapon) could be used on one light slot, and a Gust on another. This is because weapons such as the Halo give up firepower for the utility of locking down enemies.

Trivia
- The robot Ares was named after the Greek God of War.
- Ares' 'tentacles' are actually redirecting weapons after absorbing the damage they received.
- The trailer for the Pantheon robots showed that Ares is the knife fighter, run-and-attack tactic method, and the strongest of the trio.
- Еldritch Arеs is possibly a reference to Cthulhu from the stories of H.P. Lovecraft.
- Ares is named one of the highest priority targets to attack, so be cautious while piloting one.
- If an enemy deals damage to the Ares using any type of splash weapon while its ability is active under the shield, the shield will glow dimly when damage is dealt. This is probably to mitigate the shield's brightness from blinding the enemy's camera. This same phenomenon can be observed with Hades, Nemesis, and Demeter.
- This robot was added on November 27, 2018.
